Alvar Aalto
Hugo Alvar Henrik Aalto (3 February 1898 Kuortane - 11 May 1976 Helsinki) was a Finnish architect, designer and academic. From the late 1950s onwards, he was a nationally and internationally renowned master and one of the major names mentioned in the context of architectural modernism. Aalto's numerous designs include buildings not only in Finland but also elsewhere in Europe and the United States.

Aalto's work was influenced not only by Finnish nature and tradition, but also by the history of architecture. His works are often cited, for example, the Paimio Sanatorium, the Finlandia House, the Säynätsalo Municipal House and the buildings of the Helsinki University of Technology. He was also known for his close collaboration with the Ahlström family, which resulted in master plans and town plans for factory sites, as well as housing for employees and individual buildings. Aalto was also one of the founders of Artek and the Contemporary Art Association. He is also known as the husband of Aino Marsio-Aalto and Elissa Aalto.
